Known issue in Confluence
Mar 21st, 2014 by Tim Watts

I am aware of some attachments (including images) becoming unavailable – eg clicking on a link to a PDF in a page yields nothing.

If anyone else notices specific Confluence pages that have suddenly lost their attachments or images, please could you add your URLs to this Mantis issue:

https://issuetracker.cch.kcl.ac.uk/view.php?id=6076

I will be raising a support request with Atlassian tomorrow (Friday) about this.

Cheers – Tim

Update – Friday 21st March. The attachments are (mostly) still inside Confluence. However the links to access the documents are generating 505 errors which is new! This has been logged as a priority call to Atlassian – should have some news in a few hours.

ocve2.cch rebooted

SAN disk array has a failed disk
Mar 19th, 2014 by Tim Watts

There is no risk at preset (the array is RAID 1-0 mirrored and still has one other hotspare disk.

I have booked a replacement disk which will come tomorrow AM and I will swap it for the failed disk over at ULCC.

Update: The disk has been changes and the SAN is running at full redundancy.

AT RISK: Important updates to the VMWare system SAN (disk array)
Mar 12th, 2014 by Tim Watts

I have been advised by EqualLogic, the manufacturer, to update the firmware on some disks in the SAN. This in turn has a pre-requisite that the SAN main controller firmware is updated first from v5.x to v6.0.8. This in turn has a pre-requisite that the EqualLogic MEM iSCSI drivers are updated on the 4 VMWare host servers.

In order to avoid any catastrophes, this will be undertaken in stages over the next couple of weeks.

  1. This Friday 28th Feb, I will update the iSCSI drivers on ONE of the four VMWare host. This is low risk and at worst will cause a slight stutter as virtual machines (your servers) are dynamically moved to other host servers.
  2. Next week, Wednesday 5th March, I will update the other 3 VMWare host servers.
  3. The week after on Wednesday 12th March I will run the SAN firmware upgrade, then the disk firmware upgrades.

Update 28th Feb – the EqualLogic MEM driver update on vmhost-14 when well. It is now soak testing with live load. Assuming no issues transpire (unlikely), the 3 others hosts will be updated on Wed 5th March.

Update 5th March – All VMWare hosts are now running the required version of the MEM driver software.

The SAN (disk array) will have its firmware upgraded on 12th March at lunchtime. There should be no downtime.

Update 12th March – all updates suceeded.
